Profibus cables connect controllers, sensors and field devices in industrial machinery. The installation location and the required sheath properties help determine which cable to use. We offer four versions for different operating conditions.
Choosing a Profibus cable for the installation
Our bus cable range includes the following types:
| Cable type | Application and construction |
|---|---|
| 02YS(St)CY | Standard version for indoor installation |
| 02YS(St)CY2Y | Outdoor version with a PVC sheath and an additional PE outer sheath |
| 02YSY(St)CY-FR | Version with a flame-retardant PVC-FR outer sheath |
| 02YS(St)CH | Halogen-free version for indoor installation |
The cables are specified according to DIN 19245 T3 and EN 50170, in line with the Profibus specification. For a replacement or a new installation, compare the selected cable’s data sheet with the requirements of the bus system and the planned route.
Conductor and screen construction
All four versions use solid copper conductors, AWG 22/1, with Foam-Skin PE insulation. Their screen combines aluminium composite foil with tinned copper braid. The screen helps protect the transmitted signal from electromagnetic interference.
The 02YS(St)CH data sheet specifies approximately 80% optical braid coverage. Cable dimensions, electrical characteristics and minimum bending radii are listed in the individual data sheets.
Flame-retardant and halogen-free versions
The 02YSY(St)CY-FR version has a flame-retardant PVC-FR outer sheath, with flame performance specified to IEC 60332-3-24. The 02YS(St)CH version uses a halogen-free outer sheath.
These are different material properties. Match the selected version to the project’s fire requirements and check the relevant test information before ordering. A halogen-free sheath alone does not establish every aspect of a cable’s behaviour in a fire.
Sheath colour and outdoor protection
The indoor versions have a violet sheath, RAL 4001. On 02YS(St)CY2Y, a black PE outer sheath covers the violet PVC sheath. This outer layer distinguishes the outdoor construction from the indoor version.
When requesting a Profibus cable, include the cable type, length, installation location and any fire-performance requirements. Send these details through our contact page so we can check the appropriate version for your project.
